Another investment in Scottish education

The SNP's manifesto commitment on school buildings in 2007 was to match Labour's plans "brick for brick". Labour's 2007 commitment (the manifesto with the spectral children) was to re-build 250 schools 2007-2011 (page 26, funny bar at the right-hand side). Rebuilding is either substantial refurbishment or new build - both count towards that target. 159 schools have been completed since May 2007 and the current programme will see the 250 target met by the 2011 election. Another SNP promise fulfilled.

With the process streamlined now and accelerated, cabinet Secretary for Education, Fiona Hyslop MSP, has announced a further extension to the building programme with the first 14 secondary schools of the next wave, soon to be followed by the next wave of primary schools - taking us into 2013 - planning for the future, excellent stuff.

Mind how you go!
